Bank rates have been cut again today to 1.5%, the lowest rate in history. Waiting for details from the bank to the difference this will make to my payments, my overpayments accounts is certainly looking good for this year.

I have for a long time tried to live a green life, we recycle as much as we can. With 5 in our house we only drop 1 bin bag in our wheelie bin a week, much of which at the moment are nappies from the little one, the majority of our waste is either put out for the recycle collection or fed to our worms.

This year we plan to do more, firstly to help our children understand where food comes from but also to lower our outgoings. I have asked my dad to make some raised bed planters out of some off cuts of wood he had laying around. The first had arrived and I’ve lined it with some old compost bags and will plant out our planned veg in march. photos to follow…

I thought I’d write a short post on the impact the recent changes to the interest rates have made to my mortgage payments. This time last year I was paying just under £1,000 a month, now I pay just over £500. So what am I doing with this extra money?

Well I have set up a high interest savings account and have a standing order in place to pay £500 a month to this account. The money in the account will be used to make over payments against my mortgage throughout the year. I need to investigate further the positive impact these over payments will have on my own mortgage payments.
